QUICK SYMPTOM CHECK

  • Key won’t turn in ignition — steering wheel locked, or cylinder wafers worn

  • Key stuck in ignition — shift‑interlock or cylinder binding

  • Door lock turns hard — worn key / dry cylinder (driver’s door often shows first)

  • New copy still doesn’t work — original key is worn; copies duplicate the wear

  • Green key/immobilizer light — chipped key or programming issue (some models)

Tip: If your key is visibly worn or bent, a code‑cut key usually performs better than copying a worn key.

WHY THIS HAPPENS

  • Worn keys: After years of use, the key’s cuts round off. Copies of a worn key rarely fix the issue.

  • Wafer/cylinder wear: Many older Honda ignitions/door cylinders use small wafers that wear or stick, causing binding.

  • Dry or contaminated locks: Dust + moisture = sticky wafers; the lock needs the right lubricant (not heavy oils).

  • Column/shift interlock: If the wheel is hard‑turned or the vehicle isn’t fully in Park, the key can bind.

WHAT WE DO

  • Cut Keys by VIN/Code — precise cuts to factory spec; better than copying worn keys.

  • Ignition Rebuild/Replace — replace worn wafers/cylinder components; match to your existing key where possible.

  • Door/Trunk Cylinder Service — clean, re‑pin, or replace; restore smooth operation.

  • Immobilizer/Chip Key Programming — genuine‑spec keys/fobs programmed to your car (model‑dependent).

  • Emergency Unlocks & Tow‑in Coordination — we’ll help you plan the fastest fix.

Good to know: We can often key the new/rebuilt ignition to your existing key, so you don’t carry separate keys for doors and ignition when feasible.

TRY THIS FIRST (safe, non‑destructive)

  • Wheel wiggle: Turn the steering wheel left/right while gently turning the key.

  • Verify Park/Brake: Make sure the shifter is fully in Park (or clutch depressed).

  • Use the right lubricant: A small puff of lock‑specific dry PTFE lube can help a dry cylinder. Avoid heavy oils.

  • Don’t force it: Forcing the key can break it off—call us before it escalates.

Skip graphite inside automotive locks—it can clump with moisture/dust.

MODELS & YEARS WE SEE OFTEN

Civic • Accord • CR‑V • Odyssey • Pilot • Element • Fit (especially older models from the late 1990s through the 2010s). If yours isn’t listed, call—we handle most Honda lock systems.

FAQ (schema‑ready copy)

Can you fix this without replacing the whole ignition?
Often, yes. We can rebuild or service the cylinder and match it to your existing key when feasible.

Why did a new duplicate key still not work?
If the original was worn, a copy duplicates the wear. A code‑cut key restores factory dimensions.

Will you need my car at the shop?
Not always. Many jobs are mobile. For complex rebuilds or programming, we may suggest in‑shop service.

Can you program Honda chip keys?
Yes—model dependent. We’ll advise based on your year and key type.

My key is stuck—what should I do?
Don’t force it. Call us. We’ll walk you through safe steps and dispatch a tech.
